Humor is my life. You can say Vic Varjabedian lives for humor. Without humor, Vic Varjabedian would be a depressed man.

Humor has been around for a long, long time. However it changes with time. What was humorous 50 years ago might not be humorous today. Judge yourself. Here's some of my personal favorite jokes from the early 1900's:

Humor # 1

Recipe for an actor:

To one slice of ham add assortment of roles.

Steep the head in mash notes till it swells,

Garnish with onions, tomatoes and beets,

Or with eggs-from afar-in the shells.

Humor # 2

The later Dr. Henry Thayer, founder of Thayer's Laboratory inside Cambridge, was walking around a street one winter morning. The sidewalk was sheeted with ice as well as the doctor was making his way carefully, as was also a woman going in the opposite direction. In hoping to avoid each other, both of them slipped and so they came down in a heap. The courteous doctor was overwhelmed and his embarrassment paralyzed his speech, but the woman was equal to the situation.

"Doctor, if you will be kind enough to go up and pick up your legs, I will take what stays," she said cheerfully.

Humor # 3

A preacher had ordered a load of hay from one of his parishioners. About noon, the parishioner's little son stumbled on the house crying lustily. On being inquired what the matter was, he explained that the load of hay had tipped over in the street. The preacher, a kindly person, assured the little fellow that it was nothing serious, and asked him in to dinner.

"Pa wouldn't like it," said the boy.

However the preacher assured him that he would correct it all right with his dad, and urged him to take dinner prior to going for the hay. After dinner the boy was asked if he were not glad that he had stayed.

"Pa won't like it," he persisted.

The preacher, unable to understand, asked the boy exactly what made him think his father would object.

"Why, you see, pa's underneath the hay," described the boy.

Humor # 4

When William H. Crane was young and less discreet he had a vaunting ambition to play Hamlet. So with his first profits he organized his personal company and he went to an inland western town to provide vent to his goal and "try it on."

When he returned to New York a group of friends noticed that the actor appeared to be much downcast.

"What's the matter, Crane? Did not they appreciate it?" asked one amongst his friends.

"They did not seem to," laconically replied the actor.

"Well, didn't they give any encouragement? Didn't they ask you to come prior to the curtain?" persisted the friend.

"Ask me?" answered Crane. "Man, they dared me!"
